Here’s an idea worth considering.

Recent research has shown that a World of Warcraft player’s gaming experience is CLOSELY related to their overall gaming experience.  If you’re not having a good time with your guild, if you’re not in a group you like working with, you’re shooting yourself in the foot.

You’re paying good money for this game, and you deserve a gaming experience you like, right?  Okay, so we’re agreed on this point.

Let’s look at some legitimate reasons for leaving a guild:

1.  Abusive Leadership – If your guild leaders are bullying, berating, or otherwise bothering you on a consistent basis, you should probably /gquit right away.  Let them nag people who DON’T have other options, because trust me, you do.

2.  Can’t commit to raid/instance times.  – If you can’t help the guild out, you probably shouldn’t be in the guild.  There’s no dishonor in bowing out in this case.  Just send a quick note to your guild masters to see if it’s a concern first.  A lot of gm’s are willing to work with you on this point, but if worse comes to worst, it’s all good.

3.  Leaving the game – It’s only courtesy to let your guildies know when you’re leaving the game for a long period of time.  We all go through times like this, and it’s usually not a problem.  It is, however, common courtesy to alert at least the leaders of the guild.

4.  Letting a character hybernate – If you’re going to be focusing on one of your alts for a while, without planning to use your main, let people know.  They may just say “whatever”, but it may come down to leaving the guild.

5.  You just know it’s time – Sometimes there just comes a time when you need to call it quits.  Maybe the guild has changed, maybe you’ve changed, but whatever it is, it may just be time to go.  Again, explain yourself to the bosses, and they’ll probably understand.

There are a lot of other good reasons to leave a guild, but this is just intended to help out if you’re considering the ol’ /gquit.  Bear in mind, sometimes it’s best to talk to the leaders, sometimes it’s best to just fade into the sunset.  Either way, remember your first responsibility is to yourself and having a good time online.  Happy Questing.
